Best Hair Transplant: NeoGraft™ versus IGT™

At DiStefano Hair Loss Restoration Centers we perform two types of hair transplant techniques, Follicular Unit Transplant, wherein a strip of donor hair is removed from the back of the scalp and divided into individual follicles which are then transplanted to areas needing hair. The other method is follicular unit extraction, wherein follicles are extracted individually from the donor area one at a time and then transplanted.

Follicular unit transplants leave a scar at the back of the head where the scalp is sutured. That’s not a problem unless you wear your hair short. For those who like shorter styles then follicular unit extraction is the way to go.

Key to the follicular unit extraction method is the device that removes the individual donor hairs. Many hair loss restoration surgeons use a Neograft™ device. Of late, medical spas and plastic surgery offices have begun buying the Neograft device in order to add hair transplants to their services.

At DiStefano Hair Loss Restoration Centers, we have created our exclusive Individual Graft Technique (IGT™). We believe it offers the best hair transplant option when it comes to extracting individual follicles. One issue with the Neograft device is that all follicles must be removed at the same time during the beginning of the procedure. They’re then stored in a preservative solution. Many times they reside in this solution for several hours. The way the Neograft transports the follicles to the solution is also thought to have a drying effect on the follicles which can reduce their survival rate, once transplanted. With the IGT method, each hair is extracted using a device called Safe Scribe™ and then immediately transplanted to the donor site. There is no preservative and no chance for the follicle to dry out. The result is the best hair transplant possible.
