Hair Loss Surgeon
It is not only Dr. Mark DiStefano's technical expertise that differentiates him from other hair loss surgeons. He is especially attuned to the emotional harm that comes from losing one's hair. Both men and women often feel rejuvenated by having their hair restored by Dr. DiStefano.
"I smile every day," says one of his patients.
Dr. DiStefano's background was in surgery and emergency medicine before he turned to restoring hair. Among the procedures he uses are:
- Individual Graft Technique (IGT) — This technique moves your hair from one region of your scalp where hair is more plentiful to regions of baldness or low hair density, doing one graft at a time. Dr. DiStefano developed special micro-instruments to perform this highly specialized procedure.
- Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) — This method involves transplanting individual follicular units composed of from one to four hairs in each follicle.
- Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) was developed after the use of FUT. Using this technique, Dr. DiStefano cuts out a strip of follicular units and separates them into one to four hairs under a microscope.
- Total Crown Renewal or the Frechet Triple Flap procedure. Dr. DiStefano studied under Dr. Patrick Frechet of Paris and then brought the technique back to the United States. After making some minor alterations in the Frechet procedure, Dr. DiStefano became one of the only U.S. surgeons to perform this procedure. He has earned international recognition for his specialized talent and expertise.
- Transplantation of hair to the eyebrows and temporal peaks.
- Low Level Laser Technology (LLLT) using the laser comb.
- Micro-needling to improve the appearance of scars.
- The newer Safe Scribe™ power surgical device in place of a manual punch for extracting follicular units. The instrument was developed by Dr. James A. Harris.
