Hair Transplant Guide for Balding Men in Connecticut

In recent years, because of technology enhancement, better precision and safety, results for hair transplants have gotten significantly better. It used to be something that no one ever talked about but after gaining attention and acceptance, patients are proud to show off their results.

Some men embrace the baldness but for others, thinning hair can negatively affect their self-confidence & self-image.  A hair transplant can help men feel more confident and get the look they want. A full head of hair is not something you will miss before it is gone.

The two most popular types of hair trans plants are Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and the Individual Graft Technique (IGT), also known as Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

  1. FUT is when units are harvested from a strip of scalp that is removed by the surgeon from the back of the head. The incision is then sutured and leaves behind a small scar when healed. Technicians carefully remove the hair follicle units from the strip of scalp to implant where hair is needed. The technicians at DiStefano Hair Restoration Centers have been trained by Dr. DiStefano himself. They have honed their skills to increase the overall graft yield by 33% compared to the average.
  2. IGT or FUE is when individual follicular units are removed from the back of the head. Using a device called a Safe Scribe, we can microscopically separate hair follicles from the scalp without damaging it. While time consuming, this method leaves no linear scar and is a better option for people who like to wear their hair short.

Post-Surgery Hair Care

Swelling of the scalp and face along with itching is common with many patients. It is important that you do not scratch the transplant area. Scratching can make things worse and result in a scab. Occasionally, temporary hair thinning can occur. This is commonly referred to as shock loss.

The first few months is when you can expect to see some new hairs sprouting. This can vary greatly between patients but the average time is around three months. It is important to remember that it can be 12 to 15 months before final results can be seen.
